PERMACULTURE RETREAT
TS_architecture
San Luis Obispo, CA
Status: Permitting

The vision for these 160 undeveloped acres in San Luis Obispo County is to create a permaculture farm and healing center. The owner strongly believes in the restorative power of "hands in the earth." By working on the farm, exploring the interconnected-ness of ecosystems, and simply enjoying nature and community, guests can find healing from various traumas.

Phase One: TS_architecture designed a Master Site Plan and Guest House, which will serve as a residence, office, and base for the property's future development.

The Guest House operates off-grid, featuring solar power, grey water reclamation, and passive geothermal systems.

RIVER RETREAT
EcoNest
Architecture
Oakdale, Oregon
Status:  In Construction

The goal for this vacation home was to be mold free, toxic free, and maintenance free.  Our clients wanted the design and material choices to require a minimal level of maintenance so they could return each vacation and just enjoy the retreat.  Single pitched roofs with dedicated rain cathcment basins, Parklex resin boards and Cembrit concrete panels require no finishing and minimal maintenance.  Faswall construction with external rainscreen assures no trapped moisture and mold in the damp Oregon climate.  Views and indoor/outdoor gathering spaces are focused on the river.  A private courtyard with outdoor shower and access to sauna in the garage provide a cool, shaded, and tranquil summer respite.

Health/Environment:  Mold & Multiple Chemical Sensitivities

Mount Shasta ADU
Status: In Construction
Mount Shasta, CA : In Construction

This ADU was designed with a timber frame core wrapped with larssen truss and infilled with hemplime for a low carbon, high efficiency yet breathable dwelling.  The owner/builder took on this project as his first timber frame structure and is finishing the building mostly by himself.  Careful detailing and consultations between the engineers and the owner gave him the confidence to do the construction on his own.

The Gannon family approached me with the desire to bring more light, spaciousness, and a sense of welcoming to their kitchen.  They also knew that as their two toddlers grew up, it would be important to include the family both visually and physically with the activities that typically centered around the kitchen.

Our solution was to open the wall between the kitchen and dining room with a bar top  and stools.  The flooring was replaced in the living, dining, and kitchen to create a seamless feel between rooms.   Light colored cabinets and tiled backsplash were added to increase the natural light in the kitchen and an accent of color paint to ground the focal point from the dining room and entry.
